Katy Perry - E.T. , Firework
Katy Perry (born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson; October 25, 1984) is an American singer-songwriter and actress. Born in Santa Barbara, California, and raised by Christian pastor parents, Perry grew up listening to only gospel music and sang in her local church as a child. After earning a GED during her freshman year of high school, she began to pursue a career in music.
As Katy Hudson, she released a self-titled gospel album in 2001, which due to the closing of her record label, was deemed unsuccessful. She later recorded an album with production team The Matrix and completed the majority of a solo album from 2004–5, neither of which were released.
After signing with Capitol Music Group in 2007, her fourth record label in seven years, she adopted the stage name Katy Perry and released her first Internet single "Ur So Gay" that November, which garnered public attention but failed to chart. She rose to fame with the release of her second single "I Kissed a Girl" in 2008, which went on to top international charts.
Perry's first mainstream studio album One of the Boys followed later that year and subsequently, became the thirty third-best selling album worldwide of 2008. It was accredited platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America, while "I Kissed a Girl" and her second single "Hot n Cold" both received multi-platinum certifications.
Her sophomore studio album Teenage Dream was released in August 2010 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The album included hit singles "California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework" and "E.T." , all of which topped the charts on the Billboard Hot 100, making the Teenage Dream album one of only nine albums to ever produce four or more Hot 100 number ones.
"E.T." is an electronic ballad that tells of "falling in love with a foreigner". Extraterrestrial metaphors are used throughout, and West continues these metaphors in his two verses, making heavy use of Auto-Tune at times. Though the song was widely noted for its darker and more mature theme, in contrast to Perry's conventional works, critics were overall mixed in response.
West's presence on the single also received divided opinions. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100—the fourth from Teenage Dream to do so—for five non-consecutive weeks and is Perry's fifth number one on the chart.
"Firework" is a self-empowerment anthem with inspirational lyrics, and was considered by Perry as the most important song for her on Teenage Dream.
"Firework" received good reviews from music critics, with some noticing its catchy melody and danceable beat and comparing it to songs by English band Coldplay.
The song was commercially successful, reaching the top spot on Billboard Hot 100 and the top 5 on twenty charts around the world.
An accompanying music video, directed by Dave Meyers, was released on October 28, 2010. It portrayed Perry singing and dancing around Budapest, with intercalating scenes of shy teenagers become confident in themselves.

Contemporary critics predominantly gave positive reviews for it and noted its heavy influence from pop groups like ABBA and Ace of Base. "Alejandro" became Gaga's seventh successive single to reach the top-ten of the US Billboard Hot 100.
"Bad Romance" was released as the lead single from her third extended play (EP), and second major release The Fame Monster (2009). Written by Lady Gaga and produced by RedOne, the track was inspired by the paranoia that Gaga experienced while touring the globe from 2008 to 2009.
Musically, "Bad Romance" features a spoken bridge, a full-throated chorus and sung
lyrics that address the situation of being in love with one's best friend. The song, containing elements of the music from the 1980s and the 1990s and influences of German house-techno music, has been described by Gaga as a pop experimental record.
"Bad Romance" was a commercial success and was also ranked the ninth best song by Rolling Stone in its list of "25 Best Songs of 2009" and received the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
The accompanying music video features Gaga inside a surreal white bathhouse. There, she gets kidnapped by a group of supermodels who drug her and sell her to the Russian Mafia for sexual slavery. The music video ends with Gaga killing the man who bought her.

Li Lykke - Get Some
Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson (born 18 March 1986), better known by her stage name Lykke Li, is a Swedish indie singer. She released her debut album, Youth Novels, in 2008 and her follow up album, Wounded Rhymes, in 2011. Li was born in Ystad, Skåne in 1986; her mother, Kärsti Stiege, had been a member of an all-girl punk band called Tant Strul before settling into photography. Her father, Johan, played guitar for Swedish punk band turned reggae outfit Dag Vag.
The family moved to Stockholm when Li was a toddler and later moved to a mountaintop in Portugal when she was six, where they lived for five years. The family also spent time in Lisbon and Morocco and spent winters in Nepal and India.
She moved to the neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn in New York for three months when she was 19. She returned when she was 21 to record her album.
Lykke Li had some success with the EP "Little Bit" in 2007. Stereogum named her an artist to watch in October 2007 and described her music as a mix of soul, electro and "powdered-sugar pop".
She released her first album, Youth Novels on LL Recordings in the Nordic region on 4 February 2008 and it received a wider European release in June, 2008.
Lykke has become increasingly popular with indie music fans and she has received a great deal of notoriety for her cover of "Knocked Up", originally recorded by Kings of Leon who had approached Lykke to cover a song of her choice, and "Gifted" in which she performs with Kanye West.
A remixed version of her song "I'm Good, I'm Gone" was featured in the film Sorority Row (2009). The song "Possibility" was written for the film New Moon (2009). Li had been asked to write a song to the film soundtrack but she was reluctant to commit to the project. It was after she had seen an early screening of the movie that she decided she wanted to contribute to the soundtrack. The soundtrack was released on 16 October 2009.
Her song Until We Bleed, which she sang with singer Kleerup was featured on an episode of UK TV series Misfits.
Lykke Li's second album, Wounded Rhymes, was released in 2011 ."Get Some" is a song from this album. Produced by Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John, it was released in Sweden on 22 October 2010 as the album's lead single. Li said of the song: "A lot of people think it's about sex. [...] But it's about power. I was reading the Murakami book The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, where she goes into this guy's mind by making him fantasise about her, so it's kind of like powerplay. As soon as a woman does anything, they seem to hit a nerve and it's back to sex. At least men seem to think that."

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are an indie pop band from New York City.
The band members are Kip Berman(vocals and guitar), Peggy Wang (keyboards and vocals), Alex Naidus (bass), Kurt Feldman (drums), Christoph Hochheim (guitar).
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart built up a pretty rabid fan base in the indie pop community prior to the release of their self-titled debut record in early 2009.
For this, they could thank a string of excellent singles and EPs that began in 2007 (songs from which appear on the album) but more than that they can put it down to the fact that their sound melds together the trademarked sounds of many beloved indie and noise pop bands into one shiny ball of sound and melancholy.
The band name comes from an unpublished children's story of the same title that a friend of singer Kip Berman wrote. The group's self-titled album peaked at #9 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. On September 22, 2009, they released Higher Than the Stars, their second EP. The band released their second album, Belong, on March 29, 2011.
Belong and Heart In Your Heartbreak are two songs from that album.

The Kills – DNA & Satellite
The bluesy punk duo the Kills consist of vocalist/guitarist VV, aka Alison Mosshart, formerly of the Florida punk band Discount, and drummer/guitarist/vocalist Hotel, aka Jamie Hince. After Discount ended in 2000, VV began exchanging tapes with the London-based Hotel through the mail, but both of them felt hindered by this method, so VV crossed the Atlantic so the duo could write faster.
In spring of 2001, they issued a self-released demo that showcased their gritty, sexy sound and earned favorable reviews. They also contributed a song, "Restaurant Blouse," to «If the Twenty-First Century Did Not Exist It Would Be Necessary to Invent It» compilation early in 2002, before their debut EP, Black Rooster, arrived that summer.
Along with gigs at the London and Glasgow, the Kills also toured the U.S. for eight weeks before returning to London to finish their first full-length album, Keep on Your Mean Side, which was released by Rough Trade in spring 2003. A second album, No Wow, arrived in 2005 and was an even dirtier, leaner collection of songs. The Kills retooled their sound for 2008's Midnight Boom, mixing more electronic beats and pop hooks into their punky bedrock.
While touring alongside the Raconteurs in support of Midnight Boom, Mosshart struck up a friendship with frontman Jack White, prompting the two to form a supergroup, the Dead Weather, in 2009. The Kills took a short break while the Dead Weather worked feverishly, issuing two albums in ten months and touring behind both.
Blood Pressures brought the hiatus to an end in 2011.Blood Pressures is the fourth studio album by indie rock band The Kills. It is scheduled for release in April 2011.
The first single 'Satellite' was released on iTunes on 31st January 2011 and its video debuted on YouTube on 9th February. The song 'DNA' is currently available from their website as a free download if you sign up to the bands mailing list.

Monahan – Criminals
Singer-songwriter Ryan Monahan conceived Monahan out of the ashes of two successful CT-based indie-rock outfits, Eschellon, and Shadowgraphs. And while previous groups focused on balls-to-the wall atmospherics, Monahan’s solo effort has chosen to forgo theatrics in favor of carefully thought out, studio-constructed soundscapes.
Monahan’s melancholy-tinged pop songs have garnered comparisons as wide as Roy Orbison, Andrew Bird, Beck, Jeff Buckley, Elvis Costello, and Travis.
In 2008, Monahan packed up his successes and failures and set his sights for small-town music Mecca - Athens, GA - to begin working on his solo debut,Stop Saying I.
In Nov of 2008, Monahan’s cinematic folk-composition, “The Sound That Never Dies”, appeared on the season finale of Lifetime’s Army Wives, to be followed in 2009 by Eschellon’s post-Beatles groove “I Know You’re Tired” appearing in the feature film Crossing Over (Harrison Ford, Sean Penn, Ashley Judd). In 2010, "I Know You're Tired" would make an encore appearance on Fox Network's Lie To Me.
"Stop Saying I" finally released in 2011 and is a unique and multi-layered dark jazz, alt-pop gem. Monahan notes that although Damon Albarn, Paul Simon, Arcade Fire and '80s Britpop are some of his top influences for the album, each song is purposefully distinct for the purpose of storytelling—ultimately sharing a tale of personal growth.

She Wants Revenge - Take The World
"She Wants Revenge" is an American musical duo, based in San Fernando Valley, California. Justin Warfield – vocals, guitar, keyboards and Adam Bravin (aka Adam 12) – bass guitar, keyboards, guitar, drum machine, percussion, programming, vocals.
Due to a broad array of musical influences, and a reluctance to stick to a single genre of music, She Wants Revenge's genre is often disputed.
Considered part of the post-punk revival movement of the 00s,the group have been compared to Joy Division or Interpol in the music press because both vocalists (Paul Banks and Justin Warfield) have similarities to the baritone vocal range of Ian Curtis. However, Justin Warfield has stated many times his band is more electronically based often referring to She Wants Revenge as "Dance Music."
Musically, their influences range from the dance of 1980s acts like New Order, Depeche Mode and The Psychedelic Furs to the alternative rock groups of the 1990s, such as Pulp, My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth to the darker rock bands of the New Wave and post-punk movements such as Bauhaus, Danse Society, and The Sisters of Mercy who helped create the aesthetics of the original gothic rock genre.
The group's debut album She Wants Revenge was released in early 2006, with three singles to follow ("These Things," a video for which features Shirley Manson from Garbage, "Out of Control," and "Tear You Apart" for which the video was directed by Joaquin Phoenix). The band has sold more than 300,000 records in the US.The band's second album, This Is Forever, was released on October 9, 2007.The band toured extensively through 2006 with synthpop band Depeche Mode and Placebo.
Their EP, Save Your Soul, was released to iTunes on May 13th, 2008. The EP contained four tracks: "Save Your Soul," "A Hundred Kisses," "Sugar," and "Sleep."
An EP titled Up and Down, was released via iTunes on September 22nd, 2009.
A new video titled "Take The World" was released February 7th 2011, prior to the release of their first single, "Must Be The One". The video was band member Adam Bravin's directorial debut. Filming for "Must Be The One" began on February 8th, and is due release in March. The tentative release date for their third album is slated for May 2011.

PJ Harvey - The Glorious Land
Polly Jean Harvey (born 9 October 1969) is an English musician and singer-songwriter. Growing up, her parents were both fans of American blues music. Their record collection exposed Harvey not only to the blues but also to Captain Beefheart. Both the blues and Beefheart would become major influences on Harvey’s own musical style.
Harvey is primarily a vocalist and guitarist, but is also proficient with a wide range of instruments including piano, organ, bass, saxophone, and autoharp.
She began her professional career in the early 1990s by forming a band she named PJ Harvey.
She recorded her first two albums with this trio, and when they broke up she continued as a solo artist. Since 1995 she has recorded her albums with various musicians including John Parish, Rob Ellis, Mick Harvey, and Eric Drew Feldman
Musically, Harvey dislikes repeating herself, resulting in albums that can sound different from one to the next.
She has experimented with such diverse musical styles as rock, pop, electronica, and folk. She is also known for changing her appearance from album to album by altering her mode of dress or hairstyle. Each look is then incorporated into the album's artwork, music videos, and live performances.
Among the accolades she has received have been the 2001 Mercury Prize (for 2000's Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea), seven BRIT Award nominations, five Grammy Award nominations and two further Mercury Prize nominations. Rolling Stone named her 1992's Best New Artist and Best Singer Songwriter and 1995's Artist of the Year, and placed two of her albums (Rid of Me, To Bring You My Love) on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
She was also rated the number one female rock artist by Q magazine in a 2002 reader poll and was awarded Outstanding Contribution To Music at the 2011 NME Awards.
Let England Shake is the eighth studio album by PJ Harvey. It was released on 14 February 2011 in the UK. The album was written over a period of two-and-a-half years, and recorded in a five-week period at a church in Dorset in April and May 2010. The album entered the UK album charts at #8, her second release to debut within the top ten in the United Kingdom, and the first since Rid of Me in 1993. The album also entered at #32 on the Billboard 200 with sales of around 18,000, making it her second highest-charting album in the US after Uh Huh Her peaked at #29 in 2004.
The album was released to widespread critical acclaim. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalised rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 88, based on 37 reviews, which indicates "Universal Acclaim".NME stated, "Francis Ford Coppola can lay claim to the war movie. Ernest Hemingway the war novel. Polly Jean Harvey, a 41-year-old from Dorset, has claimed the war album", and gave the record a very rare 10/10 rating. Spin rated 9/10 , praised its "bloody and forceful" sound, while Q praised its "remarkable lyrics" and "ethereal music" and gave it top marks. Mojo called it an "uncannily timely piece of work", with the artist at "her most powerful".
"The Glorious Land" is the second single from her eighth studio album, Let England Shake. Dealing with the United Kingdom's involvement in the Afghan War, its accompanying music video, directed by Seamus Murphy, is the fourth part of a twelve music-film project documenting Let England Shake.

The Raveonettes - War in Heaven
The Raveonettes are a Danish indie rock duo, consisting of Sune Rose Wagner (born 1973) on guitar, instruments, and vocals, and Sharin Foo (born 12 December 1979) on bass, guitar and vocals. Combining the noisy swells of the Jesus and Mary Chain with melodic elements of '50s rock & roll, the Raveonettes formed in Copenhagen during the early 2000s.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of '50s and '60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats, and often dark lyrical content (e.g., crime, drugs, murder, suicide, love, lust, and betrayal), similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground.
Their first EP,released in 2002, was a fuzzy, dark, cinematic set of songs entitled "Whip It On", which fused classic garage rumblings with frenzied electronic bits
"The Chain Gang of Love" appeared in September 2003. The first single from the album, "That Great Love Sound," became a minor hit, due in part to a creepy video featuring Foo and Wagner dreaming up ways to kill each other.
Sessions for their next album began in late 2004, and Wagner cast aside all songwriting and recording rules (as well as guitar distortion) in favor of classic songcraft and lots of rich, lush reverb. The resulting album, 2005's "Pretty in Black", featured guest spots from Suicide's Martin Rev, Ronnie Spector, and the Velvet Underground's Moe Tucker.
In early 2008, the band returned to a minimalist sound with Lust Lust Lust, followed one year later by "In and Out of Control".
The band's fifth studio album, "Raven in the Grave", is set for release in April of 2011. "War in Heaven" comes from this album. With widescreen static, breathy vocals and dangerous guitars, the Danes have spat out the bubblegum pop and are tearing into horizon-filling rock.

Ex Libras - Teenage Eyes
Ex Libras are Amit Sharma, Kieran Hagi, and Ross Kenning who bonded over "alternative music with groove" whilst working at Hounslow Borough Library
Utilising piano, guitar and drums, they create a unique blend of post-rock, noise and rhythm in a sophisticated, deep, dark, emotional way.
The band released a debut album back in late 2009 called Suite.
A number of selected tracks were reworked for the subsequent Cuts EP.
‘Teenage Eyes’ comes from that EP and was released in February 2011. A haunting piano sets the scene, with guitar , bass and minimalistic drums only adding to the sinister, cinematic feel.
The vocal sits perfectly, capturing the scene one can almost imagine a strange tale of beautiful tragedy unfolding before you. Ruth Kelly from Ariel Up provides the cello, cutting in almost unnoticed as it slowly builds.
To commemorate this release, Ex Libras have teamed up with KIFilms' very own Beau Fowler, who has produced and directed a visually stunning music video that compliments the bands eerily cinematic sound perfectly.

Cat's Eyes - Cat's Eyes
Cat's Eyes are a duo formed by Rachel Zeffira, a Canadian opera soprano and classical multi-instrumentalist based in london, and Faris Badwan, the singer from British psychedelic-rockers the Horrors.
In the collision of their two very separate worlds, something magical has come into being.
Cat's Eyes first live appearance took place in December 2010, amid some secrecy, at St Peter's in the vatican, where they performed a reworked version of their song 'i knew it was over' during an afternoon mass attended by several high-ranking cardinals.
Cat's Eyes eponymous debut album is a romantic pop masterpiece fit to dine at the same table as mid-'60s productions by phil spector, joe meek or shadow morton, but with a fiercely modern, experimental premise, which constantly leaves you wondering just what you're listening to, and how on earth it was created.
Ahead of the album, the debut release from Cat's Eyes is the 'Broken Glass EP' which will be realesed on 27th of March 2011 and includes the self-titled single.

Γheir debut album To Lose My Life... was released in January 2009, debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart.

When asked about the comparisons in an interview, McVeigh stated that "We weren't alive during that period of music...we've never really been that into Joy Division, especially not the Editors...or even Interpol really", adding "I don't think our music sounds a whole lot like those comparisons, I think we're a lot more euphoric and uplifting".
In 2009 they won the MOJO Breakthrough Award and Best New Band award by Q Magazine.
"Bigger Than Us" was released as the lead single on 3 January 2011 in the United Kingdom, where it debuted at number 42.
The video of the song is a homage to Steven Spielberg's 1982 film E.T.
The video recreates elements of E.T.'s apparent death whilst he is quarantined alongside Elliott. The character of E.T. is played by a large "Bigger Than Us" candy bar which contains a young girl...
There are other intertextual references to the film featured in the video, the basketballs circling the band at 2:56, the bright red light within the bass drum at 3:08 and the images of the woods where the original film sees E.T. return home.
